Supporting newly qualified and recently qualified maths teachers during the early years of their career to help develop strong and capable practitioners.
This Work Group aims to support Primary Early Career teachers in developing specialist knowledge for teaching mathematics, thus enabling them to understand, teach and support pupils in maths in the classroom..
Work Group Focus
This project supports teachers in their first two years of teaching and focuses on designing effective learning and teaching and mathematics in multiplicative reasoning.
By working deeply on this focus area, the work group will draw on associated pedagogy, including lesson analysis and lesson design.
This work group correlates with the Early Career Framework (ECF), particularly standards 2, 3 and 4.
What will the Work Groups achieve?
Professional Learning:
Teachers will enhance their mathematical subject knowledge with an emphasis on the key structures within multiplicative reasoning.
Practice development:
Through collaboration with colleagues, participants will plan and teach a carefully sequenced and coherent area of mathematics.
Pupil outcomes:
Pupils will be seen to elaborate when responding to questions, showing that their answer stems from a secure understanding and be seen to positively engage with challenging content.
What will participating schools gain?
Half-termly, collaborative Work Group sessions giving the opportunity to work with other teachers and receive specialist input from an NCETM PD Lead accredited Work Group Lead.
